Expect to see increased interest in Alex Flinn’s YA novel Beastly, a retelling of beauty and the beast.  I heard that they are showing this teaser trailer before New Moon.  If you have a copy of Beastly on the shelf, why not display it or add it to a Twilight display?

A Christmas Carol

scroogeDisney will be releasing a 3-D version of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in November.  Jim Carrey is the voice of Scrooge AND all three ghosts.  Check out the trailer here.

And coming out next week, (but not in the catalog yet,) is an illustrated version of A Christmas Carol by Brett Helquist, illustrator of A Series of Unfortunate Events and the Blue Balliett mysteries.

Whip It based on Derby Girl

Entertainment Weekly just informed me that the upcoming film, Whip It, is based on the YA novel, Derby Girl.  We own four copies which are all currently checked in.  Check out the trailer here.  It will be released in early October.

Cirque du Freak Trailer

The trailer can be viewed here.  I haven’t read the books, but the movie looks pretty good.  Anyone read the books and have thoughts on the trailer?

The release date of the Cirque du Freak movie has been moved up to October 23, 2009, just in time for Halloween!  The movie’s title is The Vampire’s Assistant.  I don’t see a trailer online yet.

foxWes Anderson is directing a stop-motion animation adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Fantastic Mr. Fox set for release November 13.  Bill Murray, George Clooney, Meryl Streep and Owen Wilson are all providing voices.  More info here and here.

Owly: the Movie

owlyThanks to Fuse #8, I learned this morning that the J graphic novel Owly is being made into a film.  It’s not listed on IMDB, but the website says it is premiering at the San Diego Comic-con, so I’m not sure if it will have wide release.

According to Vanity Fair, Disney has acquired the rights to Aprilynne Pike’s YA novel, Wings and Miley Cyrus is set to star as the main character, a teen who sprouts wings and learns she’s a fairy. FVRL owns four copies with 12 holds.

Septimus Heap: Magyk is set to be released in 2010.  We have seven copies with one hold and four copies in the SEL collection.  Let Meg know if you’d like a copy from the SEL collection.
