Media and Books

“In their young adult memoir, The Year We Disappeared (Bloomsbury, Aug. 2008), Cylin Busby and her father, John Busby, describe in alternating chapters the chain of events that occurred 30 years ago when John, then a police officer in Falmouth, Mass., was shot in the face, and he and his family were forced into hiding. Since its publication in August,  the book has revived interest in the case, for which no arrests were ever made, and has gone back to press for a total of 30,000 copies in print. This Saturday, February 14, at 10 p.m., CBS News’s 48 Hours will air its own investigation of the case.”  Hopefully this will generate more interest in this YA NF title, which is already circing well for a YA NF!  View the book trailer here. I wish the book trailer was a tad more interesting, but the book, which has been on my to-read list for months, looks quite engaging.

And more from the PW Children’s Bookshelf email:

According to Variety, the release date for the Fox 2000/Walden Media film version of Beezus and Ramona is March 19, 2010 and will star Selena Gomez as Beezus and Joey King as Ramona.

And The CW has picked up a pilot based on the (still popular) 1990s YA series Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith.
